Canada’s Prime Minister is the equivalent of an American President. Elections are held whenever the current government feels like it and Canadians then vote for an MP (Member of Parliament) who will represent their electoral jurisdiction in “Parliament”. Most MPs belong to one of the four major political parties in Canada. The political party with the most elected MPs wins the role of government and their leader becomes the Prime Minister.
Our current Prime Minister is Justin Trudeau, who is the offspring of former Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau who reigned from 1968-1979, then again from 1980-1984. Much like his father did before him, Justin has sparked a wave of “Trudeaumania”. He’s a young (44), charismatic and physically active statesman. Canadians couldn’t be happier than to have him represent them both at home and internationally.
